Teaching Experience

Reading

My classroom fosters a love for books, words, and stories ! I include phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and multimodal literacy practices in my every day teaching.

Writing

Writing should always be a structured yet creative experience for the learner. I encourage writing by hand or typing. I also allow my learners to find other places, beyond a desk or the classroom, to write.

Math

Math is my favorite subject to teach especially when it is collaborative and hands-on! Scholars need strong math skills as they advance into the future of the 21st century. Math helps learners discover patterns and implement logical thinking.

Science

Science provides many interdisciplinary benefits for the learner. "Students learn science by actively engaging in the practices of science, including conducting investigations; sharing ideas with peers; specialized ways of talking and writing; mechanical, mathematical, and computer-based modeling; and development of representations of phenomena."

Social Studies

I love history so it is important that my passion is translated to my learners. My goal when teaching history is to think about whose history I am teaching. I do this by helping students analyze/check sources and consider authors' points of view and perspectives. I teach not only the victors’ version, but that of marginalized and disenfranchised groups, both then and now.
