Classroom Management

Take a look at my full Classroom Management Plan here (on the left),
Classroom Organization
Student-led data tracking
Small groups: The students and I sit on a carpet in the front of the classroom with clipboards.
Cooperative groups: There are two tables in the rear of the classroom designated for center work and collaborative groups.
Whole group instruction: During whole group instruction, my students have assigned seating. The classroom desks form a U-shaped arrangement around the SMART board and the table I use for small group (the carpet I alluded to is inside the U – facing the table). Some students who sit in the back or have a harder time focusing have a flexible seating option and can sit on the carpet as well.
Student Behavior Management
My classroom features a ClassDojo bulletin board that sets the general tone for the classroom community. It is here that my classroom rules are displayed. The expectations that result in students earning Dojo points is also displayed (i.e. cooperation, working hard, teamwork etc.). I also display my hand signals and calls to attention on this wall.
Check out my class syllabus complete with expectations (on the right).

Parental Involvement
I keep open lines of communication with parents via ClassDojo, Google Voice, letters home, and student-led Parent-Teacher conferences.
