Teaching Philosophy
" Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn."
- Benjamin Franklin-
My teaching philosophy is inspired by Ben Franklin’s learning philosophy that renders effective instruction involves student-centered activities where learners acquire knowledge through real-world application and their personal experiences.
Effective instruction will always focus on successfully helping learners achieve their learning goals. It is best that these goals are acquired and maintained through the learner’s exposure to a learning program that immerses them in situations that foster authentic interaction with content and the consistent application of skills they are expected to master.
To design an experience that accomplishes this outcome, the learning designer (aka teacher) must know the learner and the way the learner prefers to acquire information. Therefore, the method by which a designer creates a learning experience should always involve, even begin with, a focus on the learner (Morrison et al., 2019). Instruction should engage learners and require active participation from them. This involvement can be as simple as getting the participants to make a decision, solve a mystery, or compete in a game with one another.
